Volunteer InternAt — Jump and Schout - Brea
Volunteers will be required to assist in cleaning/organizing materials and equipment, complete paperwork filing, assist in locating materials for therapists. They will be permitted to observe treatment sessions if all required tasks have been completed for the day. If during any observation, a therapist is in need of assistance, cleaning, filing, or organizing it will take precedence over the observation.
Tasks:
Students will provide assistance in cleaning materials, toys, and treatment areas. Students will assist in organizing various treatment areas. Students will assist in retrieving treatment items as requested while shadowing supervising occupational therapists during a treatment session.
Training:
Students will be mentored by a supervising occupational therapist and/or certified occupational therapy assistant. They will receive weekly one-on-one meetings to discuss any questions and clarify treatment methods and the reasoning for those treatment methods. They will be permitted to shadow various therapists who engage in different therapeutic techniques and methods to treat various diagnoses and conditions. They will be able to communicate well with supervisors and colleagues regarding needs/concerns that might need to be addressed during therapy sessions with pediatric clients. Volunteers will understand the importance of cleaning/sanitizing materials and areas as well as organizational skills for filing, charting, note taking and prioritzing.
