Teacher AssistantAt — Azusa Discovery Center Preschool and School Age, Inc.
Assist with preparing materials and implementing lessons and activities designed to teach basic concepts like letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. Provide direct supervision during classroom activities, playtime, meals, and transitions to ensure children's safety and well-being. Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment that promotes security and trust. Assist with basic hygiene needs, such as handwashing, and provide support during meals, naps, and toileting routines.
Tasks:
Support lead teachers in preparing and delivering age-appropriate educational activities across developmental domains (cognitive, emotional, physical, and social).
Help set up and clean learning stations, and engage children in structured group tasks.
Interact directly with children in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate manner.
Facilitate play-based learning, encourage participation, and assist with conflict resolution using positive behavior strategies.
Help manage daily routines such as arrivals, transitions, snack/lunch time, rest periods, and dismissal.
Support the implementation of classroom rules and behavior expectations.
Training:
During the first 1–2 weeks, students will shadow experienced early childhood educators to observe effective classroom management, child interaction techniques, and the delivery of educational activities. A designated mentor will guide and support the student throughout the placement. Students will meet weekly with their assigned mentor or supervisor to reflect on their experiences, receive feedback, and set goals for continued development. These meetings are designed to promote ongoing learning and address any challenges. Prior to assigning tasks, supervisors will provide clear explanations of the purpose, learning objectives, and best practices associated with each duty. Students will be guided through small group activities, circle time routines, snack preparation, and documentation procedures.
Learning Outcome:
1.By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to assist in the implementation of age-appropriate educational activities that support the cognitive, emotional, and physical development of preschool children.
2. The student will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills with young children, including active listening, positive reinforcement, and conflict resolution techniques.
3. The student will be able to collaborate effectively with lead teachers and staff to support daily routines, transitions, and individualized care for students.
