The Montessori Trainee in Classroom internship offers hands-on experience in an authentic Montessori classroom setting. The intern will support the Lead Teacher in implementing Montessori pedagogy and classroom management techniques. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson delivery, maintaining classroom environment, supervising students, and collaborating on learning materials. This internship is ideal for students pursuing careers in early childhood education, particularly within the Montessori philosophy.

Tasks:

The intern will:
Assist the teacher during class by helping children with lessons, redirecting behaviors, and circulating the room
Help set up and maintain the prepared Montessori environment daily
Support classroom order and cleanliness in accordance with Montessori principles
Supervise children during outdoor play and other non-classroom activities
Provide direct instruction or remedial support under the teacher’s guidance
Co-present lessons in collaboration with the Lead Teacher
Learn and manage classroom record-keeping systems
Assist in developing classroom materials and planning activities, including for field trips
Model respectful, cooperative behavior and guide children using Montessori-aligned practices
Fill in for the Lead Teacher in cases of absence, under supervision
Immediately report concerns or accidents to the Lead Teacher
Collaborate with the teacher on strategies to support student success
Attend open houses and teacher in-service days as scheduled
Follow all procedures outlined in the MOTL Staff Handbook and by classroom leadership

Training:

The intern will receive:
Initial orientation covering Montessori philosophy, classroom expectations, safety protocols, and emergency procedures
Ongoing weekly meetings with the Lead Teacher for feedback, reflection, and guidance
Daily on-the-job mentorship through modeling and collaborative tasks
Midpoint and final performance evaluations to assess learning progress and skill development
Observation opportunities to learn from experienced Montessori educators

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Montessori principles and teaching strategies
Apply classroom management and child guidance techniques in alignment with Montessori philosophy
Develop and maintain a structured, respectful, and engaging learning environment
Deliver lessons and support individualized learning under teacher supervision
Keep accurate classroom records and observe student progress
Plan and prepare Montessori-aligned activities and materials
