Opportunity Summary 

Student internship that provides learning opportunities and work projects associated with the daily processes, systems and procedures used in Risk Consulting.

Job-Specific Major Activities (Essential Functions)

  • Learns from Department personnel about the insurance industry and the Risk Consultant profession. Receives training on key consulting services.
  • Facilitates client interactions and analyzes various fire hazards, as directed.
  • Manages workload in assigned territory by following the risk consultant priorities of activity and time management.
  • Informs Regional Risk Manager and other Risk Consultants of progress and issues related to assigned work.
  • Responds to various departmental requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in special projects, as assigned.
  • Completes presentation outlining the internship experience to Field Services leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

Tasks:

  • Completing hazard identification walk through of insured commercial clients
  • Make recommendations to help reduce or avoid property loss exposures
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including marketing and underwriting, to improve client safety and practices
  • Manages workload in assigned territory by following the risk consultant priorities of activity and time management
  • Completing a written evaluation of the commercial client visits document what was observed and accomplished

Training:

  • Initial two-week in-person classroom and hands-on training at Federated's corporate learning center
  • Post corporate training, at least one week of in-person job shadow with Regional Risk Manager
  • At least one additional week of in-person job shadow with a Risk Consultant
  • Weekly check-ins with Regional Risk Manager to review progress and provide mentorship
  • Completes presentation outlining the internship experience to Field Services leadership at the conclusion of the internship
