Opportunity Summary 

We are seeking an intern with educational aspirations to become a  knowledgeable and proactive Occupational Health and Safety Consultant to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of workplace safety programs and training across our organization. This role focuses heavily on employee training, compliance audits, and risk prevention strategies to ensure compliance with OSHA, state and federal regulations, and internal policies.

The vertical markets that we cover include; Manufacturing, Construction, Colleges & Universities, Healthcare, Conservation Corps, and Environmental.

Tasks:

  1. Assist in Conducting Workplace Safety Audits
    • Participate in site visits to observe and document safety conditions.
    • Help evaluate compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
    • Assist in preparing audit reports and recommending corrective actions.
  2. Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
    • Support in conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
    • Collect and analyze workplace hazard data (chemical, ergonomic, physical).
    • Help prioritize risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  3. Develop and Review Safety Programs and Policies
    • Assist in drafting or updating safety manuals, SOPs, and compliance documentation.
    • Review existing policies for regulatory alignment.
    • Research industry best practices to improve internal procedures.
  4. Support Safety Training Programs
    • Assist in developing training materials (e.g., PowerPoints, handouts, quizzes).
    • Observe or help facilitate safety training sessions for clients or staff.
    • Track and document employee training participation and effectiveness.
  5. Incident/Accident Investigations
    • Support the investigation team in gathering witness statements, photos, and evidence.
    • Participate in root cause analysis (e.g., fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys).
    • Help draft investigation summaries and improvement recommendations.
  6. Regulatory Research and Compliance Monitoring
    • Research federal, state, and local health and safety laws relevant to clients.
    • Track regulatory updates and summarize changes for the consulting team.
    • Contribute to compliance gap assessments for clients.
  7. Data Collection and Analysis
    • Compile and analyze injury and illness data (e.g., OSHA 300 logs).
    • Use Excel or database tools to track trends and KPIs.
    • Create visualizations (charts, graphs) for client reports or presentations.
  8. Client Communication and Reporting
    • Assist in preparing proposals, inspection summaries, and client updates.
    • Observe client meetings to understand consulting communication strategies.
    • Draft portions of client-facing documents under supervision.

    General or Administrative Duties (No more than 20%)

  9. Document Management
    • Organize safety documents, reports, and training logs.
    • Digitize records and maintain internal databases.
  10. Scheduling and Logistics Support
    • Coordinate meeting logistics, safety inspections, or training events.
    • Prepare agendas or take meeting minutes.
    • Develop a mock safety program for a hypothetical client (capstone project).
    • Conduct a mini safety inspection of the intern’s own educational institution or department.
    • Present findings from a safety research project to firm leadership or clients.

  5. Contextualization of assigned tasks,
  6. Training literature reviews and testing.
