We are seeking a dedicated District Paraprofessional to join our team of talented educators, devoted to fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive learning environment aligned with our core values of respect, collaboration, and student-centered growth. This role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the academic and social development of students within our district schools in Orange County.
-Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with academic, behavioral, and social needs, ensuring
they are engaged and supported in accordance with district and school policies.
-Assist classroom teachers with instructional tasks, classroom management, and preparing learning materials
to support a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
-Support students with special needs by implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral
strategies under the supervision of licensed educators.
-Foster a respectful and empathetic atmosphere by building positive relationships with students, promoting
their well-being and confidence.
-Monitor student progress and behavior, documenting observations and communicating effectively with
teachers and support staff.
-Working alongside a vision teacher to support students with visual impairments, providing assistance with
classroom materials, mobility, and daily activities to ensure access to learning.
- Conducting emotional check-ins using tools such as feeling boards to monitor well-being throughout the day,
and communicating observations to teachers and support staff.
-Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment, adhering to school policies and procedures at all times.
-Support school-wide initiatives that promote respect, responsibility, and a culture of continuous improvement
aligned with the school's mission.
Training:
-Complete mandatory independent trainings before working in the classroom
-Report daily to the classroom lead educator for instructions on tasks, student learning outcomes, and behavioral management strategies
-Have weekly check-ins with supervisor to discuss progress and receive feedback
- Provide mandatory onboarding and safety/compliance training prior to classroom assignment.
- Pair the intern with a lead teacher for daily guidance, modeling, and tasks instructions
- Hold weekly one-on-one meetings with the supervisor to check in on progress, address challenges, and set goals.
- The supervisor will offer educational resources, classroom strategies, and mentorship to help the intern succeed academically and professionally. This includes teaching strategies for managing challenges and providing feedback to help the intern improve continuously.
- Provide coaching on implementing student emotional check-ins using classroom tools (e.g., mood boards/ feeling boards) and working with teachers to monitor student well-being throughout the day.
- Create opportunities for the intern to collaborate with specialized staff on campus, such as working alongside a vision teacher, to broaden knowledge of multidisciplinary approaches to student support.
Learning Outcomes:
-Instruct students with disabilities in academic subjects, using a variety of techniques, such as phonetics, multisensory learning, or repetition to reinforce learning and meet students' varying needs.
-Develop or implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities.
-Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification or positive reinforcement.
-Prepare classrooms with a variety of materials or resources for children to explore, manipulate, or use in learning activities or imaginative play.
- Support students with visual impairments by working alongside a vision teacher to adapt classroom materials, reinforce independence skills, and ensure equitable access to instruction.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
-Observe, document, and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
-Encourage students to explore learning opportunities or persevere with challenging tasks to prepare them for later grades.
-Teach students personal development skills, such as goal setting, independence, or self-advocacy.
