PSYC 495 Internship - Dr. Okado (PSYC 300 course management)At — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science

Opportunity Summary 

One PSYC 495 internship position is open to assist Dr. Yuko Okado in the administration of her PSYC 300 (Intermediate Research Methods and Statistics) online course.

This internship position will involve editing/updating course content, mainly on Canvas and YouTube.  The position is intended to be administrative and not include any direct teaching interactions with students, though this is negotiable.  Most of the work will be remote, with some possibility of on-campus activity (e.g., library research, etc.).

Tasks: Duties include providing assistance with

  • Posting, editing/updating, and proofreading course content (e.g., on Canvas, YouTube, Google Slides, Microsoft PowerPoint / Word / Excel);
  • Making adjustments to Canvas modules (e.g., deadlines, extensions, instructions) on an ongoing basis;
  • Recording tutorial videos / screencasts where necessary;
  • Working closely with the instructor to update the course for its Spring 2026 offering.

Hours are flexible, though approximately 8 hours / week of availability during the workweek is expected. Availability to check and respond to messages most weekdays is a plus, as some tasks will have a relatively short turnaround. 

Qualifications include:

  • Having completed PSYC 300 with a grade of A- or above
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills / ability to pick up new software
  • Strong working knowledge of APA 7th style

Desired qualifications include:

  • Previous experience administering/editing content in Canvas
  • Previous experience editing content (e.g,. subtitles) in YouTube
  • Familiarity with R and RStudio

Training:

Training is provided on an ongoing basis through one-on-one meetings and communication on Basecamp (a project management site). Additional training may be provided via Instructure and other help guides.  The intern will also be added to the Canvas course for applied activities and will communicate regularly with instructor via Basecamp and/or Google chat.

Learning Outcome:

1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of how to set up and edit course content, elements, and settings for an online asynchronous Canvas course

2. Explain pedagogical philosophy and decisions behind this particular section of PSYC 300 online asynchronous course.

3. Explain student needs as they interface an online asynchronous PSYC 300 course on Canvas.

4. Have increased comfort with the concepts and skills taught in this course.
