Opportunity Summary 

Intern will assist with patient care, observe ophthalmic procedures, participate in research or data management, and support the daily workflow of the clinic.

Tasks:

Observing patient examinations, refractions, and diagnostic testing (OCT, visual fields, topography, fundus photography, etc.).

Learning to take patient histories, including medical, ocular, and family history.

Assisting technicians with visual acuity testing, intraocular pressure measurement, or pupil assessment (under supervision).

Observing minor in-office procedures such as laser treatments, injections, or foreign body removals.

Understanding pre- and post-operative patient care for surgeries such as cataract extractions.

Shadowing ophthalmologists during consultations and follow-ups.

Training:

Intern will have official orientation, observe and gradually assist in patient care under supervision. Training will include weekly scheduled meetings.

Learning Outcome:

Student will learn how to develop an understanding of ophthalmic diagnostics, patient interaction, and treatment protocol. Will gain insight into the operational side of a medical practice. Develop patient-centered communication and health literacy skills.
