Opportunity Summary
- Learn basic tax treatment of S Corporations, Partnerships, and Individuals
- Prepare and file tax returns and extensions for the above groups using Thomson Reuters OneSource
- Maintain tax department data storage & retrieval systems
- Draft responses to federal, state and local tax inquiries and audit requests as needed
- Participation in special projects and presentations as needed
- Bring forth ideas to improve processes and materials.
- Other duties assigned by management including but not limited to Direct Tax assignments.
Tasks:
Compiling legal documents to build a case.
Building partner's basis and calculating the gain on sale of partnership interests.
Analyze prior year tax returns and current year income to calculate estimated tax payments.
Preparing tax extensions.
Training:
The student will participate in bi-weekly tax team meetings, day to day discussions and review of work that has been completed, one on one trainings to learn processes and procedures.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship the student will be able to:
1. Recognize and prepare various aspects of the Federal Form 1040.
2. Understand and prepare partner's basis.
3. Prepare and understand quarterly tax payments and safe harbor requirements.
