Marketing/Communications (MarComm) Academic Volunteer
- Purpose
The purpose of the MarComm Academic Volunteer is to support the Development Manager, Marketing and Communications at Ronald McDonald House® Orange County (RMHOC)
- Duties&Responsibilities
Content & Planning
- Contribute to content creating, capturing and editing
- Schedule social media content and maintaining posting calendar using Microsoft Planner
- Assist in writing and editing of captions, e-mails and e-blasts
Metrics Tracking
- Record email statistics and platform engagement using Microsoft Excel
- Supporting analysis of engagement performance and collaborate on recommendations
Brand Maintenance
- Update descriptions, links and information on social platforms utilizing applications like LinkTree
- Design icons, templates and collateral (i.e. digital and print flyers) in line with the Ronald McDonald House Charities® brand using Canva
Additional Responsibilities
- Adhere to RMHOC policies and procedures as defined in the volunteer handbook
- Maintain professional relationships with employees, volunteers, and donors
- Develop consistency and punctuality in submission of work assignments
- Attend events and cover social media or recording duties, as needed
- Assist in additional duties as requested
- Requirements& Qualifications
- Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
- Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing
- Completed or working towards a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Canva highly desired
- Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus
- Knowledge of e-newsletter systems such as Constant Contact or MailChimp a plus
- Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
- Strong ability to work well independently and within a team
- Commitment to cultural sensitivity and respect for differences
- Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission
- Hours & Compensation
This position required a minimum of 8 hours a week and is an unpaid internship/academic volunteer role.
- Start Date
This position will be open until filled and requires a 3-6 month commitment
the team to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Training:
Interns will receive an orientation on the first day of their internship. This orientation is mandatory.
There will be weekly one-on-one meetings with the intern's direct supervisor to review their progress on their goals.
Training material and manuals are personalized for each intern based on their internship goals.
Learning Outcome:
1. Understanding of Marketing Strategies: By the end of the internship, the intern should demonstrate a solid understanding of various marketing strategies, including digital marketing, content marketing, social media marketing, and traditional advertising methods.
2. Enhanced Communication Skills: Through interactions with team members, clients, and external stakeholders, interns should develop strong communication skills, both verbal and written. This includes the ability to convey ideas clearly, collaborate effectively within a team, and present findings or recommendations professionally.
3. Insight into Industry Trends and Best Practices: Throughout the internship, interns should gain exposure to current trends, innovations, and best practices in the marketing and communications field. This includes staying updated on industry news, attending relevant workshops or seminars, and actively participating in discussions within the team to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
