Opportunity Summary 

Position Details

  • The Intern performs communication, publicity, and other duties assigned by board members. 

  • Develop and manage social media posts (all platforms) for the program. 

  • Create and distribute other publicity materials physically to locations and/or electronically. 

  • Familiarity with social media networks and computer literacy (Word, Excel, Google Suite,Adobe, etc.) 

  • Creating and distributing flyers, posters and other promotional and PR materials to surrounding business locations or by mailers. 

  • Assisting with special events such as fundraisers, partnership opportunities, cast related functions, etc. 

  • Assist with outreach within the community. 

  • Participate in an extremely collaborative work environment by attending in-person meetings, events, etc.

  • Share ideas and suggestions through open communication.

  • Conduct industry-related research for online and print.

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented student who can work unsupervised and independently, a self-starter with initiative 

  • Excellent communicator 

  • Good computer skills and significant proficiency with social media (all platforms) 

  • Creative digital design skills are a plus, but not required

  • Ability to work quickly and with attention to accuracy and detail

  • Possess a strong interest in communications/public relations and a desire to pursue a career in the field

  • Strong writing, research and organizational skills

  • Self-starter, able to work independently as well as in teams

  • Be proactive and resourceful

Position may be required on a as needed basis to be in the Buena Park, CA area but is primarily remote.

Tasks:

The internship will focus on digital/visual communication, public relations, storytelling, strategic planning, analytics, and event planning for the non-profit. Develop and manage social media posts (all platforms) for the program. Create and distribute other publicity materials physically to locations and/or electronically regarding the programs fundraising, production, and press release regarding shows. Gain computer literacy working with Word, Excel, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, Canva, and other tools and software for creating digital/visual and writing content. Creating and distributing flyers, posters and other promotional and PR materials to surrounding business locations or by mailers. Assisting with special events such as fundraisers, partnership opportunities, cast related functions, etc. Assist with outreach within the community, alumni, city officials, and local businesses. Conduct industry-related research for online and print to better enhance the program for the future.

Training:

To help the intern achieve the proposed learning outcomes, a schedule will be provided at the initial onboarding. An overview of the organization, mission, values, and communication standards. Provide ongoing marketing projects, events, new tools and software, review learning outcomes, and expectations. Weekly meetings will ensure goal-setting for the following weeks. Ensure the intern receives training in market analysis, target audience identification, strategic planning, event planning and provides guidance in writing, storytelling, and editing for different media. Interns may request one-on-one guidance for assignments, content drafts, receive feedback, ask questions or project challenges in order to encourage continuous learning and clarification.

Learning Outcome

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to have principles and methods for digital/visual communication, market analysis, learning new software/tools, event planning, press release management, and strategic planning. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
