Opportunity Summary 

About the Role

We are looking to employ a part time behavior therapist to help children with autism learn new skills relevant to their quality of life. The behavior therapist's responsibilities include implementing treatment goals as instructed by their supervising Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), teaching functional life skills, and assisting in developing healthy coping mechanisms through applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy techniques. You should also be able to be playful and engaging with children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
-Work with children with varying disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, under the supervision of a BCBA.
-Teach children language, social/leisure, adaptive/self help skills utilizing applied behavior analysis (ABA) strategies.

-Maintain all necessary client documentation, including data and session notes.

-Maintain professional communication with families/parents about their child’s sessions and goals.

-Ongoing collaboration with clinical team, including communicating with supervising BCBAs about treatment progress and following/implementing changes to programs.

-Develop a welcoming and fun learning environment that maintains client dignity and confidentiality in all that you do.

-Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
To be successful as a behavior therapist, you should demonstrate compassion, patience, and understanding when treating our clients. An outstanding behavior therapist should be able to effectively interact with clients to establish trust and accurately assess client needs moment to moment.

In addition, the following are required:
-High school diploma or GED (Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or related field strongly preferred).

-18+ years old.
-Previous experience working with children.
-Experience with ABA preferred but not required
-Sound collaborative and communication skills.

-Compassionate and patient.
-Valid CA Driver’s license & auto insurance.
-Ability to provide evidence of negative TB test results.

-Ability to pass FBI & DOJ Live Scan background check.

-Reliable source of transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

ENVIRONMENT: Indoor/outdoor, working with children with various severe mental, emotional and physical handicaps. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Some assignments may involve late afternoon/evening hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and clinic equipment. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist clients. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor client activities. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Lifting and carrying clients as assigned by the position.

HAZARDS: Potential contact with body fluids. Potential contact with behavioral individuals.

Tasks:

-Working 1:1 with children under 18 years old
-Applying intervention grounded in the principles of applied behavior analysis to target treatment goals
-Taking data on treatment goals
-Writing session notes to summary intervention
-Attending staff meetings
-Creating program materials
-Supporting center events

Training:

Students will receive 40 hours of initial onboarding training, which includes 20 hours of didactic training and 20 hours of shadowing and observations. The initial onboarding training topics include general company orientation and procedures as well as the foundational knowledge of and application of principles of applied behavior analysis. Student will receive weekly supervision with an Associate supervisor or supervisor in vivo with the client they are working with. The weekly supervision date/time will vary depending on the student's schedule but will be at least 1 hour/week. Student will attend staff meetings as scheduled.

1. Understand and apply the principles of applied behavior analysis with children
2. Learn to collaborate with others professionally
3. Learn about and understand symptoms of autism spectrum disorder

Note:

Student will be working with children with developmental disabilities (mainly autism spectrum disorder) and the children may engage in maladaptive behaviors. Students will be trained about proactive and reactive strategies during their initial onboarding training.
Additionally, behavior intervention plans (BIP) will created and strategies outlined and taught to the student. BIPs are individualized to each client. Supervisors will be called to support the student with clients with maladaptive behaviors to teach, model, and trouble shoot strategies.
