Administrative InternAt — City of Victorville
Under close supervision, engages in various work assignments, projects, and activities of varying complexity, structured to enable the intern to gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform at a professional level; performs related duties, as required. Essential Functions:
- Perform a wide variety of complex, responsible, and confidential duties.
- Assist department personnel in assigned administrative, organizational, technical, and professional tasks.
- Prepare and present reports.
- Draft policies and procedures and respond to requests for information.
- Research, compile, and analyze data for a variety of administrative and departmental matters.
- Performs other related duties or projects, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Proof of enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate in a college or university AND work experience paid or volunteer, which demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the internship. Major course of study may be in one of the following areas: Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Architecture, Computer Science, Engineering, Urban Planning, Human Resources, Communications, OR a relative field of study. Requirements of education and experience will be evaluated based on the position.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
May require a Driver’s License - This position does not typically require driving; however, the ability to use reliable transportation for occasional offsite duties may be necessary.
Knowledge of:

Physical Demands & Working Environment:
Work is performed in an office environment and in close proximity to other workers. Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a business office environment. Physical demands are light, consisting primarily of sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood. Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends or evenings.
Training:
Administrative interns receive monthly on-on-one coaching with the Intern Coordinator as well as frequent coaching and training from their immediate supervisor. Assignments are provided to the Administrative Interns which include a review of the City's Strategic Plan, a review of Municipal Code, and attendance to a Council Meeting to understand how local government works.
