School Counseling InternshipAt — Vista Meridian Global Academy
The School Counseling Intern will support students through academic advising, social-emotional counseling, and college and career readiness initiatives under the supervision of a credentialed counselor. The intern will assist with individual and group counseling, data-informed student interventions, family outreach, and coordination of school-based supports, with an emphasis on equity, access, and student well-being.
Tasks:
Observe and participate in supervised counseling activities focused on students’ academic, social-emotional, and college/career development
Assist with individual and small-group counseling sessions under direct supervision
Support implementation of student support and wellness programs
Help collect and review student data to inform counseling interventions
Collaborate with counselors and school staff to support student needs
Maintain professional and confidential documentation in accordance with ethical guidelines
Training:
Shadowing of school counselors and school administrators; attending weekly department meetings, overview/contextualization of assigned tasks, professional development opportunities (as available)
Learning Outcome:
Apply counseling theory and ethical practice to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and college/career development under professional supervision.
Deliver individual and small-group counseling interventions that are developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and aligned with students’ identified needs.
Use student data and progress-monitoring tools to identify barriers to student success and support data-informed counseling interventions.
Collaborate effectively with educators, families, and support staff to coordinate student services and promote equitable access to resources.
Demonstrate professional school counselor competencies, including documentation, confidentiality, communication, and reflective practice, consistent with graduate program and credentialing requirements.
