Assistant TeacherAt — Mt. San Antonio College

The Assistant Teacher in the Infant Program supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for infants. Responsibilities include assisting with daily care routines such as feeding, diapering, and napping, observing and responding to infants’ individual needs, and helping implement age-appropriate activities that support social-emotional, physical, and early cognitive development.

Tasks;

Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate infant curriculum that supports social-emotional, sensory, motor, and early cognitive development.
Provide responsive caregiving by observing and interpreting infant cues and adapting interactions to meet individual needs.
Participate in professional collaboration with teaching staff, including discussions of infant behavior, developmental progress, and classroom strategies.
Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with state licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and mandated reporting requirements.

Communicate respectfully and professionally with families as appropriate, supporting a family-centered care approach.

Training:

Training begins with a mandatory general orientation, which includes an overview of program philosophy, licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, mandated reporter responsibilities, and confidentiality policies. Students will also receive an orientation to the infant classroom, including routines, expectations, and developmentally appropriate practices.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to implement developmentally appropriate caregiving practices for infants, including feeding, diapering, and sleep routines that support health, safety, and emotional security
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to observe, document, and interpret infant behavior and development using objective observation techniques to support individualized care.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to support the lead teacher in planning and facilitating age-appropriate learning experiences that promote infants’ sensory, motor, and social-emotional development.
