Comm Week Teaching AssistantAt — CSUF - College of Communications

The Teaching Assistant for Comm Week will be directly assisting the Comm Week adviser as a resource for students enrolled in the class to ensure that they are following proper procedures in the event planning process for the Comm Week conference. The Teaching Assistant must have prior Comm Week experience to have knowledge of the various components of the event's processes. This includes, but is not limited to, selecting and organizing committees, assisting committees with questions and needs, filling in for any vacant positions, scheduling committees' meetings as needed, tracking course attendance, co-developing modules and presentations with the instructor to be implemented in lectures, plus providing additional support in determining best practices for resolving event-related needs.

Tasks:

- Co-creating committees based on students' strengths, interests and experiences
- Attending regular committee meetings and report back to the instructor on committee progress
- Directly working on the Comm Week conference during the week of the event in various capacities (parking, green room, speaker escort, welcome desk) on an as-needed basis
- Presenting information they have developed and researched about event planning relative to the Comm Week conference in the classroom during class meetings

Training:

- Provide meaningful, regular and timely feedback to the student about their progress as a TA
- Meet with the executive committee and the student to review and discuss development of plans and procedures
- Create opportunities for the student to co-develop lessons and modules for presentation, under my supervision

Learning Outcome:

- Organize and oversee event planning committees to ensure they are remaining on task
- Provide leadership functions in conjunction with the executive committee's plans and procedures
- Develop lessons and presentations for instruction in an event planning course setting
