The Development Coordinator supports the South Gate Rotary Club’s mission by assisting with event planning, fundraising, and community engagement efforts. This role focuses on coordinating events, supporting fundraising strategies, managing communications, and maintaining organizational systems. The position provides hands-on experience in nonprofit development, community outreach, and organizational administration, aligning with Human Services internship learning objectives.
Task:
The student will perform professional and pre-professional duties that support nonprofit development, community engagement, and organizational operations. Tasks will include:
Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising and community service events, including developing timelines, coordinating logistics, and supporting on-site event operations.
Support fundraising and resource development efforts by assisting with sponsorship outreach, tracking donations and in-kind contributions, and maintaining accurate fundraising records.
Participate in organizational planning meetings and collaborate with Rotary Club leadership to support program goals and community initiatives.
Manage and update the organizational and event calendar, ensuring accurate scheduling of meetings, deadlines, and community activities.
Conduct professional communication with vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
Assist with expense tracking, documentation, and reporting related to events and fundraising activities.
Maintain organizational filing systems and records, including donor information, event documentation, and administrative materials, in accordance with confidentiality and ethical standards.
Respond to inquiries and provide appropriate information and referrals to community members or partners as needed.
Engage in reflective practice, including supervision meetings and self-evaluation, to assess learning progress and professional development in the human services field.
TRaining:
The student will receive an initial general orientation to the South Gate Rotary Club, including an overview of the organization’s mission, values, structure, and community service goals. Training will include a review of policies, ethical expectations, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
The student will participate in scheduled one-on-one meetings with the site supervisor to review responsibilities, receive guidance, and reflect on learning progress. Ongoing mentorship and supervision will be provided throughout the placement.
The student will receive job shadowing opportunities during event planning meetings, fundraising activities, and community events to observe nonprofit development and community engagement practices.
Training will also include hands-on skills development, such as learning event coordination processes, sponsorship tracking, expense tracking, calendar management, and professional communication with vendors and community partners. The student will be provided with work samples, templates, and organizational tools to support task completion.
Additionally, the student will receive contextual explanations of assigned tasks, including how each task supports the organization’s mission and community impact. Relevant training materials, guidelines, and feedback will be provided as needed to support learning outcomes.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
