As a Business Systems Analyst Intern, you will be responsible for analyzing, documenting, and supporting the business and information systems used in daily pharmacy operations. This role focuses on evaluating system workflows, supporting data analysis and reporting, and assisting with process improvements. Your work will support the pharmacy’s digital and operational infrastructure to ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant services for both customers and staff.
Tasks:
The student will perform professional and pre-professional duties that support pharmacy business operations and information systems. Tasks will include analyzing and documenting existing pharmacy workflows and system processes, including prescription processing, inventory management, and reporting activities. The student will assist in gathering and documenting business and system requirements by working with pharmacists, technicians, and administrative staff.
The student will support data analysis activities by extracting, validating, and organizing operational data and assisting in the preparation of reports related to efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. They will help identify process improvement opportunities and support the development of recommendations for system or workflow enhancements. Additional duties include assisting with system testing, validating data accuracy, maintaining system documentation, and supporting the implementation of minor system or process changes under supervision.
The student will also participate in meetings related to operations and systems improvement, communicate findings to relevant stakeholders, and assist with maintaining documentation to support compliance and standard operating procedures. These tasks are primarily analytical, technical, and collaborative in nature, ensuring the experience is sufficiently complex and professional to support the awarding of college credit.
Training:
During this placement, the student will receive structured training designed to support both learning and practical skill development. Training will begin with a general employer orientation covering workplace policies, confidentiality, privacy regulations, and an overview of pharmacy operations and information systems. The student will be introduced to the pharmacy’s business and information systems, including workflow processes, reporting tools, and data standards.
Ongoing training will include job shadowing with pharmacists, technicians, and administrative staff to understand daily operations and system usage. The student will participate in scheduled one-on-one meetings with a designated mentor to review tasks, receive feedback, and discuss learning progress. Additional training will be provided through hands-on work with sample datasets, system documentation, and reporting tools, as well as guided reviews of assigned tasks to ensure proper context and understanding. Training materials, reference documentation, and periodic skill reviews will be used to reinforce learning and support continuous development throughout the placement.
