Opportunity Summary 

Assist the Doctors with various help around the office as they treat all sorts of musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions. 

Tasks:

Under direct supervision of a licensed chiropractor, the student intern will perform professional and pre-professional clinical duties including:
Assist with patient histories, review of systems, and intake examinations
Participate in physical, orthopedic, neurological, postural, and gait assessments
Assist in clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, and care plan development
Observe and assist with chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue techniques, therapeutic modalities, and corrective exercises as permitted
Participate in re-examinations and outcome assessments to evaluate patient progress
Complete clinical documentation (SOAP notes, exam findings) within the EHR under supervision
Apply evidence-based practice, HIPAA compliance, informed consent, and ethical standards
Observe and practice doctor–patient communication, patient education, and case management
Participate in case reviews and clinical meetings
Limited exposure will be provided to clinic operations (scheduling, workflow, insurance processes) for professional development purposes.

Training:

Student will be involved in various environments that include the office setting when the Doctors treat patients. Student will also be apart of weekly meetings with the staff when we discuss the mishaps and goals from the past week and going into the following week. In addition, the student will participate in multiple marketing events that include pop-ups at local farmers markets, social media posts, and office community events.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to understand basic anatomy of the human body and possible modalities and treatments for certain conditions. In addition, the student will be able to understand proper healthcare relations from Doctor to Patient that include history taking, examinations, diagnosis, and treatment. Lastly, the student will be able to understand proper flow of a professional office that treats 50-100 patients per day along with seeing and working with our other staff members in efficient collaboration.
