Athletic Training Observation Student InternAt — Mater Dei High School
The Athletic Training Observation Student participates in a supervised educational experience designed to provide exposure to the athletic training profession. The student observes certified athletic trainers in clinical and athletic settings while learning about injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of physically active individuals.
Tasks:
Observe certified athletic trainers during practices, competitions, and clinical sessions
Learn proper techniques for injury prevention, taping, bracing, and rehabilitation through observation
Observe injury assessments, treatment plans, and emergency response procedures
Assist with non-clinical tasks as permitted (e.g., equipment organization, hydration setup, facility preparation)
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and institutional policies
Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and appropriate conduct at all times
Follow all safety guidelines and instructions provided by supervising athletic trainers
Training:
Shadow certified athletic trainers during practices, competitions, and clinical sessions while providing feedback.
The intern will be trained on proper techniques for injury prevention, taping, bracing, and rehabilitation through observation
Observe injury assessments, treatment plans, and emergency response procedures
The intern will be trained on all safety guidelines and instructions provided by supervising athletic trainers
Learning Outcome:
Gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of athletic trainers
Become familiar with common sports injuries and general treatment approaches
Observe clinical decision-making and patient interactions
Develop professional communication and ethical awareness in a healthcare setting
