Internship Opportunity at The Sanctuary: Holistic Wellness Center and Yoga Studio

Join our team at The Sanctuary, a holistic wellness center dedicated to fostering a deep sense of calm and well-being in the heart of Orange County, California. Our mission is to address the root causes of disharmony in the body and mind, promoting health and vitality through a comprehensive range of therapies including Yoga, Ayurveda, Massage, and Reiki.

Position Overview:

As an intern at The Sanctuary, you will support our healthcare professionals in creating and promoting programs designed to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional health of our patients. Your role will involve:
• Learning about therapeutic practices in the fields of Ayurveda, Nutrition, yoga and mindfulness, and support faculty, patients, student and health care professionals with the specific projects that will be assigned to you based on your interests and skills.
• Attending seminars by Ayurvedic Specialists on various health related topics ( women’s health, cancer prevention, stress management, weight loss, mental health challenges etc..).
• Studying our courses, reading the educational content provided to you and reviewing scientific research
• educating patients and the public on disease prevention and managing various mental and physical health challenges with Ayurveda and yoga. Y improving and preserving physical and mental health and well-being.
• creating content for ebooks/blogs/podcasts/utube/webinars/seminars and workshops
• enhancing your understanding and application of holistic methods especially related to diet and lifestyle for preventing of disease and promoting optimum health
evaluating and summarizing scientific research on Ayurveda/yoga/mindufllness/breathwork and their benefits on mental and physical health.
• Educational Outreach: Create educational materials and digital content to promote healthy living practices within the community.
• Event Management: Lead and organize health-related events, including workshops and community health expos, cooking classes and partnering with local health care organizations, gaining valuable project management experience.
• Group Facilitation: Develop skills in leading therapeutic groups, focusing on techniques for stress management and emotional well-being.

• Commitment to the full duration of internship (120 hours)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• An interest in learning about and integrating wholesome self care habits for optimum personal mental and physical health

Tasks:

Clinical Application and Monitoring Skills
• Task: The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by conducting bi-weekly assessments of assigned patients and adjusting their health management plans based on observed progress and challenges.
• Project: Develop a case study presentation at the end of the internship summarizing the treatment progress of a patient, the interventions used, and the outcomes achieved.

Research and Analytical Skills
• Assignment: The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by completing a research project on the efficacy of Ayurvedic treatments in stress reduction, which includes a written report and a presentation to the Sanctuary staff.

Educational and Outreach Skills
• Project: The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by creating a series of five educational videos on mindfulness techniques, which will be shared on The Sanctuary’s social media platforms to engage the community.

Event Management and Organizational Skills
• Task: The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by leading the organization of a community yoga event, coordinating all aspects from planning to execution, including vendor management, participant registration, and post-event feedback collection.

Communication and Facilitation Skills
• Assignment: The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by facilitating a weekly meditation group, gradually taking on more responsibility for session planning and execution as their skills develop.

Professional Development and Networking Skills
• Project: The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by creating and executing a personal networking plan that includes attending at least three professional events related to holistic health and documenting the insights and contacts gained.

Training:

Clinical Application and Monitoring Skills

• Training Method: Provide hands-on training with supervisory oversight during patient sessions. Weekly review meetings will be held to discuss patient progress and adjustments to health management plans.
• Materials and Assignments: Interns will be assigned specific patients to monitor and will maintain detailed progress reports as part of their training.

Research and Analytical Skills

• Training Method: Assign a research project focused on a current topic in Ayurvedic therapy. Provide access to a library of resources and databases for holistic health studies.
• Materials and Assignments: Complete a literature review and present findings to the team at the end of the internship. Regular feedback sessions will be scheduled to guide the research process.

Educational and Outreach Skills

• Training Method: Workshops on content creation and digital communication tools. Mentorship by the media and communications team at The Sanctuary.
• Materials and Assignments: Design and produce a series of instructional videos or a digital workbook. Evaluate the impact of these materials through patient and community feedback.

Event Management and Organizational Skills

• Training Method: Co-planning alongside experienced event organizers for The Sanctuary’s events. Instruction on project management software and effective communication techniques.
• Materials and Assignments: Lead the organization of at least one small event (like a meditation bootcamp) and assist in a larger event, such as the annual holistic health expo.

Communication and Facilitation Skills

• Training Method: Initial and ongoing training sessions in group facilitation and public speaking. Shadowing experienced practitioners during group therapy sessions.
• Materials and Assignments: Facilitate a set number of group therapy sessions under supervision, progressively taking on more responsibility as skills improve.

Professional Development and Networking Skills
• Training Method: Networking opportunities with professionals in the field through organized community and professional events. Mentorship meetings focusing on career development and professional etiquette.
• Materials and Assignments: Create a professional development plan that includes attending a set number of networking events and summarizing key takeaways.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Clinical Application and Monitoring Skills: By the end of the internship, the student will be able to monitor patient progress and contribute to formulating health management plans, effectively applying their understanding of holistic therapies including yoga, Ayurveda, and nutrition in a real-world clinical setting.
  • Research and Analytical Skills: By the end of the internship, the student will be able to conduct Ayurvedic research, demonstrating proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and applying data to support and enhance patient treatment plans.
  • Educational and Outreach Skills: By the end of the internship, the student will be able to create and disseminate educational materials such as workbooks, handouts, and instructional videos, thereby increasing community awareness and engagement in holistic health practices.
  • Event Management and Organizational Skills: By the end of the internship, the student will be able to plan and execute health-related events, including hiking events, health clinics, and holistic health expos, demonstrating effective project management and organizational skills.
  • Communication and Facilitation Skills: By the end of the internship, the student will be able to effectively facilitate group sessions and workshops, utilizing stress management techniques and promoting mental health and wellness among diverse groups.
  • Professional Development and Networking Skills: By the end of the internship, the student will have developed professional relationships and networking skills through partnerships with medical facilities, non-profit activities, and community engagement, enhancing their career prospects in the health and wellness sector.
