Teacher Assistant Intern (OCCA)At — Orange County Classical Academy

Opportunity Summary 

Interns will be responsible for shadowing the classroom teacher in lesson planning, classroom management, procedure modeling, and assessing student work as aligned with the mission of the school. Interns will spend time in the classroom working with the students to identify needs and support in phonemic awareness, number sense, math foundations, and comprehension skills. Student interns will attend a grade level team meeting to see small scale and large scale planning.

Task:

Arrive promptly and dressed professionally
Align conduct and lessons with schoolwide mission
Support in classroom instruction
Lead with classroom procedures to maintain a safe and calm environment
Collaborate with teachers regarding upcoming lessons
Differentiate instruction based on class assessments
Use classroom response strategies to gain student attention
Develop skills to manage disruptions
Implement instructional strategies to support struggling students in small groups
Reflect on teaching strategies and engage in constructive criticism and growth
Attend debriefing sessions and team meetings

Training:

Initial orientation of classroom procedures, school mission and schedule. Initial overview of emergency procedures and responsibilities. Regular weekly meetings to review progress and provide mentorship. Debriefing after lessons taught by the student intern.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student intern will be able to lead lessons with questioning, support struggling students with literacy and math interventions, create lesson plans that emphasize essential questions and rich content. The student intern will be able to identify the purpose of clear classroom procedures and data analysis.
