Observation Student InternAt — The Rehab Group

Opportunity Summary 

The observation student will assist aides as needed with tasks throughout clinic. The observation student will observe OT and PT to learn what outpatient therapy looks like and differences between the two positions. The 

1. Help clinic aides do stretches and exercises either prior or after therapy
2. Assist with non-clinical support tasks such as setting up treatment areas, sanitizing
equipment, and organizing therapy tools
3. Shadow therapists during functional mobility training, therapeutic exercises, and
activities of daily living (ADL) interventions
4. Ask guided questions to better understand clinical decision-making, goal-setting, and outcome measurement

Training:

We will provide structured opportunities for observation, explain clinical reasoning behind interventions, and encourage questions and reflection throughout the experience.

Training through observation of therapists and aides.

Learning Outcome:

1.Develop an understanding of the roles and collaboration between occupational therapists and physical therapists by observing how each discipline addresses different functional goals while working together to support patient independence and recovery.
2. Gain exposure to patient-centered care in a rehabilitation setting, including how therapists adapt interventions based on patients’ physical abilities, goals, and progress, while maintaining safety, dignity, and effective communication.
3. Improve observational and clinical reasoning skills by watching therapists assess movement, functional performance, and therapeutic outcomes, and by learning how treatment plans are modified in response to patient needs and responses
