Opportunity Summary 

Our Basketball Player Development Internship is a selective, hands-on experience for individuals pursuing excellence in the fields of sports management, sports performance, kinesiology, basketball player development, or other basketball related fields. Interns will operate within a professional training environment that services professional athletes (NIL, NBA, Intl.) and works directly with a major sports agency Excel Sports Management. Interns gain direct exposure to the standards, structure, and precision required to support elite performance.

This program is ideal for candidates who are disciplined, detail-oriented, and passionate about contributing to a high-performance culture. Every session demands professionalism, focus, and the ability to execute under pressure.

Tasks:

Assist in the setup, execution, and breakdown of on-court player development sessions

Actively participate in drills by providing live offensive and defensive reps against professional players

Maintain a safe, organized, and professional training environment at all times

Support player development staff through drill simulation, tracking, and feedback
Attend weekly classroom and on-court learning sessions

Watch, analyze, and edit film from both live play and pro games

Demonstrate clear communication, adaptability, and situational awareness in dynamic training settings

Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality regarding athletes, performance data, and business operations

Training:

Onboarding/Orientation (Week 1)
Interns will complete a structured onboarding during their first week, including: facility rules, emergency procedures and plan, session flow and expectations, equipment setup/teardown standards, and communication standards (before/during/after sessions).
Shadowing Period (First 1–3 Days of Sessions)
For the first 1–3 days of sessions, interns will shadow a coach to observe session operations and teaching flow before taking on live reps or responsibilities on-court.

Skill Training Modules (Ongoing)
Intern development is supported through weekly and bi-weekly learning modules, including:
Weekly film breakdown with a film assignment (review, clip selection, notes, and takeaways)

Weekly intern practice session to walk through drill flow and taxonomy, on-court teaching cues, and data tracking basics.

Weekly–bi-weekly “Shadow Lead” quiz administered through a live session setting (intern serves as “Shadow Lead” for a group training session and is evaluated on preparedness, communication, and execution)

Learning Outcome:

Intern will demonstrate proficient practical knowledge of defensive coverages, offensive coverage solutions, and execution cues in a walkthrough setting, with the ability to teach a player

Intern will demonstrate how to design drills that teach physical skill execution, shot-making, and decision-making, including how to apply different types of pressure to each situation and how to track progress

Intern will demonstrate workout session planning, flexibility, and session curation skills through their bi-weekly, supervised “Shadow Lead” role

Intern will demonstrate drill facilitation and cue communication at appropriate intervals (batched feedback) per drill

Intern will complete one film edit per week using the Synergy Video Library and an editing software of their choice (iMovie, CapCut, or Premiere), and tag clips relevant to weekly skill development video lectures

Intern will apply professional standards including punctuality, confidentiality, communication, and feedback integration.
