Non-Clinical Intern (spr26)At — San Antonio Regional Hospital
Position Description
The intern will learn how case managers and social workers gather information from patients, complete required documentation, and identify appropriate community resources. They will observe the non\u2011clinical portions of patient intakes and gain an understanding of how our hospital coordinates services, including transportation, housing programs, mental health referrals, and follow\u2011up care.
Tasks & Assignments
The intern will demonstrate their learning outcomes by:
- Observing caseworkers during patient and client intakes to understand what information is collected and how it is used.
- Learning how intake forms, assessments, and documentation are completed and organized.
- Assisting with administrative tasks such as preparing packets, organizing case files, updating resource lists, and tracking referrals.
- Supporting caseworkers in coordinating community resources for patients with non\u2011medical needs.
- Observing interdisciplinary communication between case management, physicians, and social work teams.
Training & Supervision
Before beginning any patient\u2011related observation, the intern will complete mandatory training on confidentiality, HIPAA, infection control, and safety procedures. Training will include job shadowing, direct instruction on hospital protocols, observational learning, and guided administrative practice. The supervising caseworker and leadership will provide regular check\u2011ins, ongoing feedback, and consistent oversight to ensure the intern meets their learning goals.
