Opportunity Summary 

Akoma Unity Center is seeking motivated, community-minded college students to join our team as Youth Leader Interns. This in-person opportunity allows students to gain meaningful experience in education, youth mentorship, and program facilitation while supporting our after-school and weekend enrichment programs.

Interns will work under the guidance of a Lead Youth Leader and Site Coordinator, assisting with lesson delivery, supervision, and scholar engagement. This is an ideal role for college students pursuing degrees in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Youth Development, or related fields, who want to make an impact in their community while developing valuable professional skills.

Task:

1. Assist Lead Youth Leaders and Educators with implementing age-appropriate lesson plans and enrichment activities.
2. Support lesson planning by helping prepare supplies, materials, and printouts in advance for scheduled sessions.
3. Help Observe and document children's devleopment milestones.
4. Provide homework help and academic assistance to scholars through one-on-one or small-group support.
5. Help supervise and ensure safety of scholars during academic, enrichment, and recreational activities.
6. Build positive, supportive relationships with students that foster confidence, belonging, and motivation.
7. Encourage scholars’ participation in project-based learning, STEAM lessons, and team-building activities.
8. Assist with daily classroom setup, cleanup, and organization of materials.
9. Communicate effectively with Site Coordinators and staff regarding student progress, attendance, or concerns.
10. Participate in team meetings, staff trainings, and reflective learning sessions.
