Tasks:

Implement behavior intervention plans developed by a supervising BCBA or clinical supervisor during sessions with children.

Work one-on-one with children with autism to build communication, social, play, and daily living skills through structured and naturalistic teaching strategies.

Collect and record behavioral data accurately during sessions (e.g., frequency, duration, skill acquisition data) to support ongoing assessment and treatment planning.

Use evidence-based ABA strategies such as positive reinforcement, prompting, shaping, and modeling to teach new skills and reduce challenging behaviors.

Assist with behavior reduction programs by following step-by-step protocols for managing behaviors such as tantrums, noncompliance, or self-stimulatory behavior.

Collaborate with supervisors and families by participating in feedback sessions, team meetings, and parent coaching as appropriate.

Prepare session materials and organize teaching tools, including visual supports, token systems, and structured activities.

Maintain professional documentation including session notes, data sheets, and progress updates in accordance with agency standards.

Follow ethical and confidentiality guidelines in accordance with professional standards for working with children and families.

Training:

The initial training will be through an online guided program on the basics of Applied Behavior Analysis. In addition, each intern will go through a sexual abuse and reporting training which is online. The intern will then attend multiple sessions in person with our clients while overseen and guided by our training staff. Once minimum competencies are achieved, they will work with our clients with weekly oversight and supervision. Parent participation is required, so working directly with the family will be ongoing.

Learning Outcome:

Develop foundational skills in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA):
The intern will learn and apply core ABA principles, including reinforcement, prompting, data collection, and behavior reduction strategies, while working directly with children with autism under supervision.

Build professional experience working with children with autism:
The intern will gain hands-on experience implementing individualized behavior intervention plans, supporting skill acquisition (communication, social, and daily living skills), and collaborating with families in a natural environment.

Strengthen professional and ethical practices in a clinical setting:
The intern will demonstrate professionalism by maintaining client confidentiality, following ethical guidelines, communicating effectively with supervisors and families, and reflecting on their performance to support ongoing growth in the field of behavioral health.
