Teacher AssistantAt — Mexican American Opportunity Foundation
Assist in teaching of a Head Start Preschool Center, instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth. Assist in planning and implementing individual and group activities stimulating children's learning. Assist in supervising children and collecting observations to support Lead teacher in assessing children's educational growth in meeting milestones.
Tasks:
Assist teacher in the implementation of safety rules and supervision of children. Conduct daily inspection of indoor/outdoor environment. Conduct daily health check of children, support and model family style mealtimes. Plan, prepare and develop age-appropriate activities, assist in conducting small and large group activities. Discuss children's development with parents, collect data to support with development evaluations. Communicate verbally and/or in writing with staff and parents.
Training:
Student will receive program orientation to include brief history of our organization and information on type of services provided. Review of Head Start policies and procedures, duties and responsibilities, a tour of the facility and assign shift schedule. During internship student will receive coaching/mentoring on teaching strategies and self-growth on a weekly basis. Additionally monthly trainings are provided to teaching staff to support their professional development. By weekly monitoring observations will be conducted to ensure education activities are age appropriate and intentional to each children's needs as well as monitoring HS program and licensing compliance.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will develop knowledge, skills, and experience in child growth and development.
The student will have gained knowledge and skills in implementing the program curriculum, philosophy, policies and regulations.
The student will have learned strategies to support children's development of social and emotional, language, cognitive, and physical skills.
