Opportunity Summary 

We are looking for energetic and creative individuals to join our unique nature based preschool. This program is growing and needs vibrant individuals who would find joy in building a successful outdoor classroom experience and who understands the needs of preschoolers ages 2-6. Individual must be friendly, flexible, supportive, warm and professional. You should be comfortable working with animals (goats, sheep, pony, rabbits and local wildlife), enjoy hiking, have a love for the outdoors and the ability to work with children of all personalities. We are located on OC Parks property in a a rural, wilderness area of Orange County so an appreciation for the outdoors is important, a genuine love in working with children and nature will need to show.
Position would be with 2's and 3's and does require working with diapers and potty training.

v  Minimum 19 years old

v  High school degree or equivalent education

v  Minimum of 12 Units in early childhood education.

v  Submit to Live Scan background check.

v  Current First Aid/CPR.

v  Current Tuberculosis test and health checkup.

v  Mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom.

v  Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.

v  Awareness of the unique needs of young children and has appropriate expectations.

v  Ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs.

v  Be available for up to full time employment and available to work as late as 6:30 pm.

v  Have dependable transportation.

REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS

v  Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.

v  Utilize developmentally appropriate practice.

v  Be a positive role model for all care giving staff and children.

v  Provide excellent customer service according to the standards of Silverado Children's Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Including, but not limited to, the following:

v  Be the primary caregiver with assistance for up to 12 children in the classroom.

v  Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.

v  Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times.

v  Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, hand washing)

v  Creating and maintaining an environment that is clean, organized, and safe for all children.

v  Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service.

v  Supervise teacher aides in the classroom and ensure they are following program policy and customer service expectations.

v  Train teacher aides in the classroom and direct them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day.

v  Plan daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children.

v  Attend and engage in family participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends.

v  Prepare monthly Family newsletters and weekly lesson plans.

v  Be responsible for daily sheets and the daily activities pertaining to eating, sleeping, and diaper changing.

Training:

The training this student will receive includes mentor meetings, workshops including CPR, pest prevention, animal care, overview of assigned tasks.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, this student will be able to prepare weekly lesson plans, create a plan for young children and their parents when it comes to potty training, help children learn new concepts through art, and nature.
