ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Morningside Presbyterian Church (MPC) in Fullerton is launching a strategic initiative to expand its presence as a community hub for worship, learning, creativity, and celebration. The church campus includes multiple indoor and outdoor venues ideal for conferences, concerts, workshops, cultural events, weddings, and community gatherings.

We are seeking a high-performing, motivated Communications or Marketing Intern who wants real-world experience developing and executing a growth and promotional strategy for a nonprofit organization.

This internship is ideal for creative thinkers, strategic planners, and doers who want to build a portfolio demonstrating measurable results, campaign strategy, and community engagement.

Graduate students working on capstone projects, case studies, or nonprofit marketing research are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

The Communications & Marketing Intern will help increase awareness of MPC as a community venue and mission-driven organization, helping connect local residents, students, nonprofits, and organizations with the church’s facilities and programs.

The intern will assist with marketing strategy, content creation, outreach, and promotional campaigns designed to increase community engagement and event inquiries.

Tasks:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing & Brand Promotion
• Help position MPC as a welcoming community venue for gatherings, celebrations, learning events, and cultural programs
• Develop marketing ideas to promote campus spaces to the broader Fullerton community
• Assist in creating marketing materials such as digital campaigns, brochures, and promotional content
Digital Communications
• Manage or contribute to social media campaigns
• Create engaging posts highlighting events, campus spaces, and community activities
• Assist with photography, storytelling, and digital marketing initiatives
Community Outreach
• Help build partnerships with local organizations, student groups, nonprofits, and community leaders
• Research and connect with groups that may benefit from event or meeting space
• Support outreach efforts to community networks and local organizations
Event Promotion
• Assist in marketing events hosted on campus such as workshops, cultural gatherings, concerts, and community programs
• Help promote the church’s indoor and outdoor spaces as locations for meaningful gatherings
Strategic Growth Projects
• Conduct research on marketing platforms and community outreach channels
• Contribute ideas for increasing visibility and engagement in the Fullerton area
• Participate in planning strategies that expand community awareness of the campus

Training:

TRAINING & SUPERVISION
The Communications & Marketing Intern will receive structured guidance and mentorship designed to provide meaningful professional development in nonprofit communications and community marketing.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Communications & Community Development Administrator and will participate in regular check-ins to review progress, discuss strategy, and receive feedback.

• Introduction to the mission, ministries, and community role of Morningside Presbyterian Church
• Overview of campus facilities and programs
• Introduction to nonprofit communications and outreach strategy
Marketing Strategy & Campaign Planning
• How to develop community outreach campaigns
• Identifying target audiences and messaging strategies
• Understanding nonprofit branding and mission-centered communication
Digital Marketing & Content Creation
• Social media strategy and content planning
• Photography and storytelling for community engagement
• Writing effective promotional and informational content
Event Promotion & Community Engagement
• Strategies for promoting events and programs
• Community partnership development
• Outreach to local organizations and networks
Professional Development
• Weekly or biweekly mentoring sessions to review progress
• Guidance on building a professional marketing portfolio
• Feedback on campaign results and performance metrics
Interns will gain hands-on experience applying communication and marketing concepts while receiving mentorship that supports both academic learning and professional growth.
