Opportunity Summary

OceanFive Records is an independent, artist‑first music label focused on development, storytelling, and long‑term growth. Our A&R Representative Internship offers emerging industry talent the chance to learn how artists are discovered, evaluated, and supported inside a real label environment. Over the course of three months, interns gain hands‑on experience in talent scouting, music review, artist communication, and development strategy while working directly with our A&R team. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about music, detail‑oriented, and eager to understand how modern A&R operates within a collaborative, wellness‑centered label culture.

Task:

During the internship, students will perform professional A&R duties such as scouting emerging artists, reviewing music submissions, analyzing artist branding and market potential, and preparing written evaluations that support label decision‑making. They will participate in A&R meetings, contribute updates on assigned artists, assist with development planning, and communicate with artists in a professional, supportive manner. Additional responsibilities include researching industry trends, organizing A&R data, and collaborating with team members to advance active projects—allowing students to demonstrate mastery of the learning outcomes through real, industry‑aligned work.

Training:

Students will receive structured, hands‑on training throughout the placement, beginning with a mandatory general orientation to introduce label operations, expectations, and tools. They will participate in weekly group mentor meetings every Sunday, job‑shadow A&R staff during artist evaluations, and receive guided walkthroughs of assigned tasks to ensure clarity and context. Training also includes skills workshops, access to work samples, and curated readings that deepen their understanding of A&R research, communication, and artist development practices.

Learning outcome:

1. Identify and evaluate emerging talent using structured A&R criteria, including vocal ability, songwriting, branding, and market potential.
2. Conduct professional artist communication, demonstrating clarity, confidence, and an understanding of artist‑first development practices.
3. Analyze music releases and artist assets to provide constructive feedback that supports rollout planning and long‑term growth.
4. Collaborate effectively within a label environment, contributing to meetings, sharing updates proactively, and supporting team‑wide A&R initiatives.
5. Apply foundational A&R research methods, including scouting strategies, trend analysis, and competitive landscape review.
