InternAt — Operation Warm Wishes

During the internship at Operation Warm Wishes, she would assist with community outreach and support services for individuals experiencing homelessness, at-risk youth, families in crisis, veterans, and seniors. Her responsibilities include helping organize and distribute donations such as food, clothing, and hygiene supplies. She also supports the preparation and coordination of community events such as holiday outreach programs, back to school events, and other service activities. In addition, she helps organize materials, assist with events setup, and support community members who attend these programs. Through these tasks, she contributes to the organization’s mission of spreading dignity, compassion, and hope to individuals in need.

Training:

As an intern, she receives guidance on how nonprofit organizations provide services to vulnerable populations within the community. She is being introduced to the importance of ethical practice, respect, and empathy when working with individuals facing difficult life circumstances. Her training includes understanding how community resources are organized and how outreach programs are planned and implemented. She would also collaborate to respond effectively to community needs. This training helps her develop a stronger understanding of the role human service organizations play in supporting individuals and families

Learning outcome:

Through this internship experience, she is developing practical skills in communication, teamwork, and community engagement. She is learning how to interact respectfully with diverse populations and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges many individuals face in accessing basic resources. This opportunity also allows her to apply concepts learned in her Human Services coursework to real-world situations. Additionally, she is gaining insight into how nonprofit organizations coordinate programs and services that support community well being. Overall, this internship experience helps prepare her for a future career in Human Services by providing meaningful hands-on experience working with the community.
