Opportunity Summary 

Draw from Human Communications literature to provide feedback on the teaching of U.S. History at CSUF. Communicate with professor to suggest modifications to the syllabus and other course materials from a student’s perspective.

    Tasks/Duties  

    • Compile proposals to better communicate HIST 180 course material through mass media (e.g. links to resources that can supplement academic databases and provide alternative, engaging formats)
    • Explore and compile suggestions of documentaries, movies, and educational content  that may be relevant for the class
    • Create an OC History brochure. These could vary in geographic scope (OC history, LA history, maybe even SoCal history). Adobe InDesign can be used to create these (using skills from a class COMM students take to learn how to use Adobe products)
    • Research aspects of history as entertainment, as relevant to the tourism industry, with a particular focus on the Southern California region. The attached article on \\dark tourism\\ and its bibliography will be one starting point for such tasks. 

    Training  

    1. I will review the course materials from the instructor’s perspective
    2. I will consult with student about their findings
    3. I will offer suggestions for further reading

    • Develop professional communication skills
    • Conduct critical evaluation and research on forms of mass media
    • Present actionable recommendations
    • Use Adobe to create material for upcoming tourism events (2028 Olympics)
    • Able to identify areas in course material that could be improved
