Opportunity Summary 

Overview:
USA Water Polo internships provide training for the benefit of students interested in Olympic sports and non-profit sports management and administration. Interns will receive college credit as these are unpaid positions

The candidate(s) will provide administrative support to the Membership Department with an emphasis on customer service. This role includes, but is not limited to, timely response to member service requests via phone, email, or live chat, assistance with membership compliance, membership program support, and general administrative work. This individual is on the front lines of USA Water Polo, and shall strive to provide professional, high-level customer service within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
\u25cf Interact with members and potential members via Zendesk, phone, and/or email to provide
information, troubleshoot, and answer inquiries regarding USA Water Polo’s database,
events, products, services, and other online support.
\u25cf Responsible for promptly answering member questions via phone and/or e-mail. As well as
general administrative assistance in the day-to-day tasks.
\u25cf Assist with the Academic All-American program. This includes responding to emails,
grading transcripts, and data input.
\u25cf Assists with the National Award nomination process and recognition programs.

Skills and Specifications
\u25cf Striving for a bachelor’s degree or a higher level of education that requires internship hours fulfilled. Willingness to work for class credit only, this is a non-paying internship
\u25cf Excellent customer service skills, maintaining professional demeanor and exceptional
interpersonal skills.
\u25cf Team player with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize to
effectively meet deadlines.
\u25cf Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
\u25cf Proficient in Microsoft office suite and or Google suites.
\u25cf Familiarity with the sports industry and water polo is a plus, but not required.
\u25cf Experience working with database management systems is a plus, but not required.
\u25cf CPR certified a plus.
\u25cf The candidate(s) can be flexible with availability, willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays.

Training:

Interns will be trained and supervised closely by the Membership Coordinator, Nathaniel Windham. Initial training will include database overviews and tutorials. In addition to tutorials and overviews, interns will shadow and view responses and resolutions live from the Membership Coordinator. The initial training will take place over the first week of the internship.

Following the training, weekly meetings will be scheduled to assign and review tasks, provide further mentorship, and plan for the week. In addition to the weekly check-ins, the Membership Coordinator will be available to assist or review at any point during the course of the internship for additional support or assistance.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to navigate member and potential member concerns using conflict resolution and database expertise. Through this experience, the student will gain customer service, interpersonal, and database skills to aid in future positions.

By the end of the internship, the student will gain experience contributing to a national award program. During their internship, interns will further interpersonal, and data imputation/interpretation skills for future roles. Their work will directly contribute to the Academic All-American program, through their grading, data imputation, and customer service.

By the end of internship, the student will gain experience contributing to a fast-paced environment during USA Water Polo’s busiest seasons. The Spring and Summer months leading up to the Junior Olympics tend to be USA Water Polo’s busiest months. Interns will gain experience with high volumes of inquiries by phone, email, and other support platforms. The skills learned during this time will be transferable to other large scale events and operations for future roles
