Opportunity Summary 

Position Summary:

 The IAG Accounting Intern is primarily responsible for developing appropriate skills in applying investigative accounting theory and principles.  The IAG Accounting Intern is expected to develop a technical knowledge base and learn how to apply that knowledge to different files.       

Tasks:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Begin to obtain a working knowledge of accounting concepts as well as a basic understanding of property damage claims, business interruption claims, extra expense claims, and other insurance and litigation engagements.
Develop and demonstrate a basic understanding of insurance policy terms and concepts.
Obtain an understanding of a variety of business industries and apply that knowledge to loss measurements.
Review detailed documentation received and prepare an analysis and schedule for supervisor review.
Become familiar with the preparation of loss calculations.  
Assist with the preparation of work papers, reports, and letters to ascertain that they meet firm standards.
Begin to handle smaller assignments with minimal supervision.
Debate, discuss, explain and defend calculations with supervisors and third parties.
Show interest in learning the industry we serve, including active participation in internal and external training.
Take pride, initiative and ownership of work and file assignments.
Learn and maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of needed software applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint), as well as research techniques regarding various industries.
Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding file status.
Proactively seek guidance from supervisors as needed.
Consistently provide quality work product.
Consistently meet established deadlines ensuring that work is complete and adequate time has been provided for review processes.
Comply with the continuing professional education requirements of governing bodies.
Seek opportunities to and participate in client development/marketing.
Begin to assist with billing and other firm reporting requirements on a timely basis as needed.   
Follow M&M’s administrative practices including entering time, reporting expenses, and completing other requested administrative requirements on a timely basis.
Assist with the recruiting efforts of professionals for the firm.
Respect and maintain the confidential and proprietary nature of the documentation and information obtained.
Project a professional image as a representative of the firm.

Training:

Initial General employer orientation; 1.5 weeks of position specific training - videos, virtual sessions, and in person training; case study; 1:1 meetings with New Hire Mentor

Learning Outcome:
