The Psychology Pathways Project, a National Science Foundation-supported research project that supports career exploration in STEM among Psychology majors at CSUF, is seeking a COMM intern to assist with establishing a social media / online presence for the project. This project's lead is Dr. Yuko Okado, Associate Professor in the Psychology Department.
While the Pathways Project is geared towards supporting Psychology students at CSUF, the project's online / social media presence is intended to also communicate the project's aims and progress to the general public.
Desired Qualifications:
- Expertise/experience in advertising, marketing, social media outreach, and/or graphic design
- Interest in social sciences research and outreach
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ease with learning new software or online platforms
The position is approximately 8 hours / week, scheduled flexibly.
Tasks:
1. Complete on-boarding trainings on research ethics and project background;
2. Research and develop a strategy for building an online presence (on social media and other outlets);
3. Design content (text, graphics) to further the project's outreach online;
4. Maintain and create postings for project social media accounts on Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
Training:
Supervision will be provided via regular meetings (e.g., weekly lab meeting, supervision meetings as-needed) and communication on Basecamp project management website and Google chat. The intern will be strongly encouraged to conduct online research and literature searches to identify best practices and generate potential ideas. In addition, CITI research ethics training is required.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of research processes in a grant-funded psychology project;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the processes and strategies for building and expanding an online presence for a research/outreach project;
3. Design online / media content to help further outreach for research projects.
