Special Events Technician InternAt — The Frida Cinema
The Frida Cinema is seeking an Intern to work with our cinema's Director of Programming and Special Events.
Tasks:
The Event Production Technician Intern will oversee the end-to-end technical execution and multimedia documentation of all special events scheduled programming. Working in direct coordination with the Director of Programming and The Director of Operations, the intern will manage live audio/visual setups, execute real-time technical operations during events, filming and lead the post-production workflow to prepare content for digital distribution.
This position offers hands-on experience in live event production, broadcast engineering, and digital media asset creation.
Training:
Intern will get hands-on experience with the cinematic and special events programming of a community-based, mission-driven independent cinema.

This Internship is an ideal position for those seeking experience in the fields of Marketing, Communications, Theater Management, Film Studies. and Event Production.
-Lead the deployment, testing, and breakdown of all technical equipment, including wireless microphones, sound reinforcement systems, basic stage lighting, and digital displays.
-Manage the audio mixing console and lighting cues during live presentations and interactive Q&A sessions to ensure professional-grade production value.
-Diagnose and resolve real-time technical or signal-flow issues calmly and efficiently during live operations.
- Operate cameras to document live events, ensuring appropriate composition, exposure, and focus for long-form capture.
- Monitor and record multi-channel audio feeds, maintaining optimal gain staging to prevent distortion and ensure archival-quality sound.
-Video Editing: Review, organize, and edit multicamera footage using professional non-linear editing (NLE) software.
-Audio Mastering: Synchronize external audio tracks, apply noise reduction, and balance audio levels for final export.
-Content Delivery: Format and optimize video assets according to technical specifications for web, social media, and archival platforms.
Tasks:
- Review the technical riders/requirements for upcoming events and inventory all necessary gear, ensuring batteries are charged and media cards are cleared.
- Assemble and position equipment, including tripods, cameras, lighting stands, microphones, and audio mixing consoles within the venue.
-Conduct comprehensive sound checks with the Director of Programming and guest speakers to calibrate audio levels, eliminate feedback, and test wireless signal stability.
-Position and configure cameras for optimal framing, white balance, and exposure based on the venue's lighting conditions.
-Transfer raw video and audio files from media cards to secure local and cloud storage servers, adhering to strict file-naming conventions.
Training:
Intern will work directly with Trevor Dillon, our Director of Programming and Special Events, at our offices. Training will provide opportunities for experience in fields including:
- Rentals and Special Events: how our team works with clients to ensure their special events are run efficiently and smoothly
- Event production / \\eventizing\\ a screening: how our team identifies opportunities for creating a more immersive filmgoing experience based on a particular title (for example, themed giveaways, pre-show trivia, etc.)
-Hands-on training on the specific inventory of audio mixers, wireless microphone frequencies, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and lighting consoles utilized by the department.
-Training on the organization’s specific editing pipeline, including project file organization, preferred color grading, audio mastering standards, and brand-specific graphic overlays.
-Weekly 1-on-1 check-ins to review edited footage, discuss event logistics, and provide constructive feedback on technical execution and professional growth.
