Opportunity Summary
The student intern is directly assigned to a unit supervisor who will facilitate, direct and monitor their work within the unit under the guidance of designated unit employees.
- Practice writing skills -performed by reviewing and summarizing police reports (ie Circumstances of the Offense).
- Job shadow DPOs- primarily in my unit, both in the office and Court. I also have them job shadow DPOs in various other assignments to get exposes to other assignments in the department.
- Observe Court staffing with the DUI Court Team in chambers and observe court proceedings
- Observe and assist with office visits
- Provide translation support to assist DPOs with Spanish speaking clients
- Assist DPOs with administrative tasks and special projects. Such tasks include case filing, data entry, proofreading reports and assistance with phone calls and other duties as needed
- Assist with special projects to assist the SPO. Projects include reviewing and preparing spreadsheets, reports and updating status boards
- Review of Probation Department systems that are utilized to perform our duties
Training:
Once a student is assigned to a unit, they will be reporting to the Supervising Probation Officer (SPO) of that unit. The unit SPO will be assigning tasks to the student and applicable training will be provided to the student by the SPO or the Deputy Probation Officer (DPO).
