Summer InternAt — OC United

Opportunity Summary 

The Summer Internship at OC United is a dynamic, hands-on role for college students passionate about community development. Interns gain practical non-profit experience by managing community outreach, coordinating youth/family programs, or supporting restorative care initiatives. You will develop essential leadership, project management, and trauma-informed care skills. As an intern, you will step into the gap for those who have experienced trauma or the breakdown of the family unit. Depending on your strengths and interests, you will be placed into one of our program areas. Roles include community engagement, program coordination, mentorship, working with at risk families, and more.

Tasks:

They will work hands on with our programs and the families we serve including our camp for Foster kids ages 6-12, our programs for our families in underserved neighborhoods in Fullerton, including Food Distribution and Wellness and Life Skills classes classes. They will have opportunity to observe experienced staff and leadership during daily operations, client interactions, community meetings, and project planning. They will also have opportunities to shadow or assist in different departments within OC United to gain a holistic view of how non-profits

Training:

Students interning at OC United will receive a comprehensive, multi-layered training structure designed to bridge academic theory with nonprofit practice. This includes mandatory initial onboarding, hands-on experiential learning, and continuous personalized professional development throughout the summer. They will have Supervised, hands-on experience taking ownership of specific tasks or sub-projects to build practical, real-world skills.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship at OC United, the student will be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of community development, apply nonprofit program management techniques to local projects, enhance their professional communication and interpersonal skills, and analyze the impact of faith-based, restorative services in Orange County.
