Accounting InternAt — The KYA Group
KYA Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our Accounting and Finance team. This internship provides hands-on experience in a professional accounting environment and offers exposure to a variety of accounting functions, financial reporting processes, and business operations. The intern will work closely with accounting professionals and gain practical experience applying classroom knowledge to real-world accounting activities.
Tasks:
The Accounting Intern will perform professional and pre-professional accounting duties under the supervision of the Accounting Manager and Finance team. Responsibilities may include:
Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Perform account reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts, and investigate discrepancies.
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, collections support, and customer/vendor account reconciliations.
Assist with month-end and year-end close activities by preparing journal entry support, reconciliations, and financial schedules.
Analyze financial data using Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and other analytical tools.
Assist with the preparation of financial reports and management reporting packages.
Support internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation, organizing support, and preparing schedules.
Review accounting transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Participate in special accounting and finance projects, including process improvement initiatives, financial analysis, and data management projects.
Collaborate with accounting and operational personnel to understand business processes and the financial impact of transactions.
Assist with maintaining proper documentation and internal controls to support accurate financial reporting.
Attend departmental meetings and discussions to gain exposure to accounting operations, financial decision-making, and business strategy.
Training:
The student will receive a structured onboarding and training program designed to support their learning and professional development throughout the internship.
General Company Orientation: Introduction to KYA Group, company operations, organizational structure, workplace policies, safety procedures, and expectations for professional conduct.
Accounting Department Orientation: Overview of the accounting function, financial reporting processes, internal controls, accounting systems, and the role of accounting within the organization.
Hands-On Training: The student will receive training on accounting software, Microsoft Excel, document management procedures, and company-specific accounting processes. Work samples and step-by-step guidance will be provided to facilitate learning.
Job Shadowing: The student will have opportunities to observe experienced accounting professionals performing daily tasks, including reconciliations, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close activities.
Mentorship and Ongoing Support: The student will meet regularly with their supervisor or assigned mentor to review progress, discuss assignments, receive feedback, and address questions. These meetings will help reinforce learning objectives and professional development.
Task-Specific Training: Prior to receiving assignments, the student will be provided with background information, objectives, and context for each project to ensure a clear understanding of expectations and how the work supports business operations.
Professional Development: The student will gain exposure to best practices in accounting, financial analysis, communication, organization, and teamwork through participation in departmental activities and collaborative projects.
