Educational Talent Search (ETS) Advisor: Provides holistic, student-centered academic, college, and career advising to high school students from first-generation and underserved backgrounds. Build strong, trusting relationships through one-on-one advising, goal setting, and ongoing progress monitoring. Design and facilitated workshops and classroom presentations on college readiness, financial aid, and career exploration.
Responsibilities:
Build positive, supportive relations with project participants; conduct regular meetings with the assigned student; track and report participants’ academic progress to Academic Coordinator; monitor student participation in project services; offer advice and guidance consistent with participants' College & Career Success Plan; inform students about project activities and services and encourage them to participate; complete appropriate documentation of services provided; make recommendations to the Coordinators regarding participant needs.
Education:
- Current CSUF undergraduate or graduate student
- Minimum Sophomore class standing
Experience:
- Tutoring or mentoring experience, desired
- Experience working with high school-aged youth, desired
- Experience working with programs serving low-income students, potential first-generation college students, and students with disabilities, desired
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Former Talent Search or TRIO student or graduate from a target school, desired, not required
- Experience in overcoming the disadvantages of circumstances like those of the population of the target area, desire

Tasks/Duties:
The student staff will demonstrate the learning outcomes by practicing their advising skills with high school students.
The student staff will demonstrate the learning outcomes by presenting workshops and information session on financial aid, college applications, and professional learning.
The student staff will demonstrate the learning outcomes by scheduling information interviews with professionals in their field.
Trainings:
To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will have bi-weekly meetings with students to check in our their learning outcomes.
To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will host monthly professional development sessions to help them learn and develop their skills.
To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will connect students to colleagues and professional in their field of interest to hold informational interviews.

Students will be able to develop meaningful connections and build rapport with their student advisees.
Students will be able to mentor high school students one-on-one or in group settings to empower them towards higher education.
