Opportunity Summary 

A Companion & Bereavement Volunteer/Intern provides compassionate support to terminally ill patients and their families throughout the end-of-life journey. This role combines direct patient companionship, bereavement support services, community education, and interdisciplinary team collaboration. The position focuses on offering emotional comfort through active listening, presence, friendship, and grief support while contributing to the smooth operation of hospice services.

The ideal candidate is empathetic, compassionate, emotionally mature, and committed to supporting individuals and families facing serious illness, loss, and grief.

Task:

Providing companionship for terminally ill patients through active listening, friendship and presence.
Providing comfort for bereaved families through bereavement calls, bereavement support groups, and workshops.
Learning collaboration for team members through interdisciplinary group meeting. Incorporate as an important behind-the-scenes team member in helping our office run smoothly and efficiently.

Training:

Initial 4 hour orientation and Ongoing Hands-on training in the office setting.
Continuing Education offered monthly for topics relates to death, dying, and hospice.
30 min supervision once a week

Learning Outcome:

To understand death and dying.
To learn about hospice, the process and speak to the public about End-of-Life Options.
To be able to provide comfort terminally ill patients.
To learn to collaborate with other discipline.
Expand empathy for those in difficult and painful situations.
