Responsibilities may include preparing and organizing correspondence, mailing documents, filing and maintaining case materials, coordinating calendar deadlines and appointments, assisting with records requests, and supporting other legal office operations as needed. This role is designed to give the intern exposure to legal procedures, professional communication, document management, and the daily workflow of a law firm.

Task:

  • Preparing, organizing, and sending correspondence, including mail, email, and other written communications as directed.
  • Filing, scanning, labeling, and maintaining case documents and office records.

  • Preparing and following up on records requests and other document requests.
  • Organizing case files and materials for attorney review.
  • Supporting document preparation, administrative coordination, and case-related follow-up.
  • Assisting with internal office workflows and legal administrative projects as assigned.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive case information.

Training:

To help the student achieve the learning outcomes, the attorney and legal team will provide an orientation to the office’s procedures, confidentiality expectations, communication standards, and case management practices. The intern will receive hands-on training for tasks such as preparing correspondence, organizing case materials, filing, mailing, calendar coordination, and records requests. The student will work under direct supervision and will receive ongoing guidance, task-specific instruction, and regular feedback on accuracy, professionalism, communication, and attention to detail. The team will also provide opportunities for questions, debriefing, and mentorship to help the intern better understand the daily operations of a law firm.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to demonstrate professional communication skills through written and verbal correspondence in a legal office setting; understand basic law firm procedures related to case organization, calendaring, filing, mailing, and records requests; apply attention to detail when preparing and maintaining legal documents and case materials; coordinate deadlines and appointments using office calendar systems; and develop an understanding of client service, confidentiality, and ethical professionalism within a legal environment.
