Oversee toddler and preschool component (4 classrooms, children 18 months-5 years)

Create curriculum weekly that aligns with the Reggio, Waldorf, and Montessori philosophies on early childhood education

Oversee that staff implements this and documents it in their classrooms

Create weekly staffing schedule and oversee staff breaks 

Make sure rooms and playgrounds comply with Title 22 and Health and Safety codes 

Keep records up to date such as Needs and Services Plans and Sleep Logs for one year olds

Communicate with families on children's needs and progress in the program 

Conduct tours for interested families 

Conduct Teacher-parent meetings 

Organize and host family events to help with community engagement 

Tasks:

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in supervising children to ensure their safety at all times
Support daily routines, including meals, diapering/toileting, nap time, and transitions
Help implement age-appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
Observe and respond to childrens’ needs with patience and positive guidance
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
Communicate professionally with lead teachers and staff regarding children’s behavior and progress
Follow all childcare center policies, health and safety regulations, and confidentiality requirements
Model appropriate behavior and interactions with children at all times
Learning Objectives / Internship Outcomes:
Gain hands-on experience working with toddlers in a childcare setting
Develop basic classroom management and supervision skills
Learn appropriate child guidance techniques
Understand professional expectations within an early childhood education environment

Training:

Approve of children's submitted weekly curriculum and advise on any potential changes
Meet weekly (one-on-one mentor time) to address any areas of improvement or discuss good progress
Provide training material on leadership and administration in a childcare settting

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to provide safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for children, support daily routines, engage children in age-appropriate activities, and demonstrate effective communication and professionalism while working with and overseeing children, families, and staff. The student will also be able to complete staffing schedules, conduct tours, and ensure the facility complies with Title 22.
