Opportunity Summary 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Research and identify prospective foundation, corporate, and government funders whose priorities align with Y programs (Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility)
  • Maintain a funder prospect list and grants calendar tracking opportunities, deadlines, and eligibility requirements
  • Draft Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) and initial outreach emails to prospective funders, under the guidance of the Grants Director
  • Assist with drafting and editing grant narratives, program descriptions, and supporting application materials
  • Help gather and organize program data and outcome metrics used to support grant applications and funder reporting
  • Support donor stewardship activities, including thank-you letters, acknowledgements, and impact communications, as needed
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of funder prospects, applications, and reporting deadlines

The intern will gain hands-on experience and play a key role in expanding the Y's pipeline of funding opportunities — researching prospective foundations and funders, tracking application deadlines, narrative writing and helping draft Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) and outreach communications that connect our programs to funder priorities.

Training:

The Grants/Fund Development Intern will work under the guidance of the Grants Management/Special Projects Director and Chief Operations Officer. This includes one-on-one meetings with them and shadowing. The intern will receive regular coaching and feedback throughout their internship.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Grants/Fund Development Intern will support the Anaheim YMCA’s grant development efforts, with a primary focus on grant research, foundation and funder prospecting, and outreach to local, state, and federal funders. This position is ideal for a student interested in nonprofit work, grant writing, philanthropy, and community impact funding.
