Opportunity Summary 

The candidate will work and spend time in the following areas: orientation, training; meeting with elderly adults one hour a week; surveying seniors citizens; discussing and socializing with seniors, completing written summaries of meetings, implementing pre and post surveys, and conducting evaluation and planning.

This position fully remote. 

Interns will be assigned to three visits groups with each group consisting of an older adult and two service learners. Ongoing weekly supervision and training will be provided by the Director or Assistant Director averaging 2 hours a week.

Interns will participate in at least 90 hours of visit group work with three older adults one per group and additional hours on research projects as appropriate.

Training:

Interns will receive the following training:

Initial Online training one hour, 2 hours of initial training face to face prior to senior contact, after active senior contact will spend time in post session summary reviews and gain added training as needed, 90 minutes weekly summary review, 3 hours monthly journal review, 90 minutes email training reminders weekly. Interns will be assigned to three visits groups with each group consisting of an older adult and two service learners. Ongoing weekly supervision and training will be provided by the Director or Assistant Director averaging 2 hours a week.

Learning Outcomes
1. Intern will be able to identify communication needs of seniors and how they vary from person to person and the unique communication needs of the senior
2. Assess the ability of the senior to perform the activities of daily living
3. Develop the ability to assess the psycho social needs of seniors through direct interaction
4. Assist in the education of the program volunteers to help them understand the connection between visitations and their psycho social needs
5. Complete a journal documenting each senior visit and using the question format provided
6. Participate in professional meetings and training sessions focused on senior resources
