Position Overview

The Resource Navigation Intern is an undergraduate-level internship supporting the Hawk’s Nest Basic Needs Center’s efforts to strengthen resources, outreach, and programming for students with dependents. Working collaboratively with the Basic Needs team and campus partners, the intern will research community resources and contribute to the development of services responsive to the unique needs of student parents and other students caring for dependents.

This internship provides a currently enrolled undergraduate student with hands-on experience in student support services, community resource navigation, outreach, program development, and cross-campus collaboration within a community college setting. The intern will receive regular guidance and supervision while completing projects that contribute to the development of support for students with dependents.

Training

The intern will receive regular supervision, guidance, training, and opportunities for reflection and professional development. Assignments will be appropriate for an undergraduate intern and designed to support the student’s learning while contributing to the department’s goals.
The intern will support resource navigation, outreach, and program development but will not independently provide counseling, determine eligibility for benefits, promise assistance, or manage complex or emergency student situations. Students requiring individualized or urgent support will be referred to the appropriate staff member or service provider.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
• Research, verify, organize, and maintain accurate information about campus and community resources available to students with dependents.
• Develop clear and accessible resource guides, outreach materials, and other tools that help students understand and navigate available support.
• Use student feedback, service information, and identified resource gaps to recommend outreach strategies and programming responsive to the needs of students with dependents.
• Communicate and collaborate professionally with students, campus partners, and community organizations while applying trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive practices.
