Youth Services InternAt — Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC)

The Youth Services Intern works closely with Community Center Program Coordinators, Center Manager, Youth Program Coordinators, and Program Manager of Youth Services to provide ongoing support and services to our participants. This Internship is ideal for anyone wanting to make a difference in the lives of low-income participants and communities. The internship site will be discussed during interview.

Tasks:

Cohort 1 (Semester 1) – Youth Program Intern
Assist in delivery of Empowered2Grow and Empowered2Thrive curriculum
Assist with outreach efforts to reach more youth for program activities
Provide homework assistance and tutoring as needed
Cohort 2 (Semester 2) – Youth Mentor Intern
Under supervision, work one-on-one with a youth to provide trauma-informed mentorship
Navigate CAP OC and community resources as necessary
Meet with Youth Staff Mentor weekly and attend weekly case meeting
All Cohorts:
Attend weekly Intern Cafecito Development and Internship Training (2 hours/week)
Assist with data collection, data entry, and assist with the development of any relevant reports
Provide general support to Center and Youth Staff
Assist with seasonal activities
Participate in coordination of special events and projects
Follow CAP OC reporting protocols
Complete other tasks, as assigned

Training:

In addition to on-the-job training and coaching from Youth Services Coordinators and the Program Manager, who holds an M.A. in Marriage & Family Therapy, practictioner's certifications in Trust-Based Relational Intervention and Healing Center Engagement where students will work with youth twice a week, interns will receive training on mandated reporting, suicide identification & intervention, trauma informed care (3 parts), resume building, job search, networking, and interview skills.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
Understand and apply developmental theory for adolescents
Receive training in and provide Trauma-Informed Care
Learn how to work with adolescents in a culturally empowering way
Apply theories in a non-clinical way
Assess and respond to potential crisis situations
