Opportunity Summary 

Create, organize, and publish Business Spotlight content that highlights local businesses, including writing profiles, gathering interviews, and preparing materials for social media or city platforms; Develop and produce public art–related content, such as graphic design materials, website content, and other media that support public art initiatives.

Tasks:

Research local businesses selected for Business Spotlight features, gather background information, and prepare interview questions; Conduct interviews (in person, phone, or email) with business owners and collect photos, stories, or materials needed for content creation; Visit public art locations to gather photos, update website content about public art locations, and create public information posts; Collaborate with staff to maintain accurate information, verify facts, and ensure alignment with city branding; Support event-related tasks connected to featured businesses or public art projects (e.g., ribbon cuttings, installations, photo documentation).

Training:

Provide a start\u2011of\u2011internship orientation that explains the City’s branding standards, communication expectations, and workflow for Business Spotlight and Public Art content; Conduct weekly check\u2011in meetings to review progress on content drafts, provide feedback, and offer mentorship on writing, storytelling, and community\u2011focused communication; Provide access to past examples of Business Spotlights and Public Art write-ups, reviewing what makes them effective and how to replicate quality and consistency.

Learning Outcome:

Create, organize, and publish Business Spotlight content that highlights local businesses, including writing profiles, gathering interviews, and preparing materials for social media or city platforms; Develop and produce public art–related content, such as graphic design materials, website content, and other media that support public art initiatives; Apply professional communication, research, and storytelling techniques to deliver engaging content that reflects city branding and accurately represents featured businesses and public art projects; Use data collection methods (e.g., engagement metrics, community feedback) to evaluate the effectiveness of Business Spotlight and public art content and provide recommendations for improvement.
