Preliminary Safety and ‘Compliance & Regulation’ issue investigation

• The Data Analytics (DA) Analyst Intern will support the Data Analytics team by assisting with the collection, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of business and operational data. The internship provides hands-on experience working with large datasets, reporting tools, and business intelligence platforms to help drive data-informed decision making. The intern will gain exposure to data management practices, analytics methodologies, dashboard development, and cross-functional collaboration while supporting ongoing business initiatives. Through mentorship and practical assignments, the intern will develop technical, analytical, and professional skills applicable to a career in data analytics and business intelligence.

Tasks:

Cases and Alerts will be voted on by the group through weekly presentations

Review and understand what a potential vehicle safety concern is by:

Collecting, organizing, validating, and analyzing data from multiple internal data sources.

Conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.  Preparing summaries, presentations, and documentation that communicate analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Documenting data sources, report logic, business rules, and analytical methodologies to support knowledge sharing and process consistency.

Observe experienced analysts during project reviews, stakeholder meetings, and dashboard development activities.

Progressively assume greater responsibility as knowledge and competency increase throughout the internship.

Will receive regular feedback on work quality, analytical approach, communication skills, and professional development.

Regular weekly meetings with team on case review process and questions.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the intenship, the student will be able to:

• Identify potential safety related defects and/or FMVSS non-compliances associated with Hyundai and Genesis production vehicles through examination of consumer complaint data. These can include, but not limited to, the following: field reports, NHTSA VOQ data, legal cases, supplier information, dealer reports, plant information, safety recalls, compliance and consumer metric testing, and outliers in warranty data.
• Conduct timely, data driven investigations of possible issues that have been identified.
• Determine a preliminary severity, occurrence, and detectability scores using established metrics and standard operating procedures.
• Actively track and manage assigned cases / alerts to ensure KPI’s are within requirements (including handling time, response time and reporting deadlines).
• Review all records to summarize for management review that clearly defines the issue, and the parameters outlined above.
• Provide immediate notification to upper management of potential high priority issues.
